Fragrant Grasses.

First, I went following the fragrant grasses,
Now I return chasing falling leaves.

Chosha Kenjin, in Blue Cliff Record,
a collection of Chan Buddhist Koans.

Single moon.

A single moon,
bright and clear,
in an unclouded sky,
yet, we stumble
In the world's darkness.

Smile,

Smile,
               Breathe,
                                      Go slowly,

     Thich Nhat Hanh

Happy.

Fight.

Those who are skilled in combat
do not become angered,
Those who are skilled  in winning
do not become afraid.
Thus.
The wise winning before the fight
The ignorant fight to win.

O'Sensei Morihei Ueshiba.

The World.

Consumed with anger,
The world is an ugly place,

Bathed in happiness,
The world ia a wonderful place.

But, aha.........
it's the same world.

Every moment, is the guru.

Life always gives us exactly
the teachers we need at every moment.
This includes,
every mosquito,
                      every misfortune,
every traffic light,
                                        every obnoxious supervisor
every illness,
                              every loss,
every moment of joy and depression,
                                 every breath,
              every moment,
is the guru.

Experience.

Experience is a hard teacher,
it gives the test first, the lessons afterwards.

The door.

One went to the door of the Beloved and knocked.
A voice answered, "who is there?"
He answered, 'it is I'
The voice said, "there's no room for me and thee."
The door was shut.

After a year of solitude and deprivation
the man returned to the door of the Beloved.
He knocked.
A voice from within asked, "who is there?'
The man said, 'it is Thou.'
The door was opened for him.

Rumi.

You are.......

You are the trips I did not make
you are the pearls I could not buy
you are my blue Italian sky
you are a piece of foreign sky,

you are my heart's unuttered tune
you are a candle in my nights
you are the flowers in my rains
you are a bit of blue in my dark sky.

Yoga.

Yoga teaches us
to cure what need not be endured
and endured what cannot be cured.

Harmony.

All can do good as food only because there is evil
Therefore having and not having arise together
Difficult and easy complement each other
Long and short contrast each other
High and low rest upon each other
Voice and sound harmonize each other
Front and back follow one another.

Lao Tzu
Tao Te Ching Chapter 2
translation by Gia Gu Feng and Jane English.

Remember.

Between too many miles
and too little smiles,
               I remember you still,........

(Harry Chapin lyrics)

Understand.

Lucy Christopher in 'Stolen'.

Enlightenment.

Enlightenment is like the moon reflected on the water.
The moon doesn't get wet, nor the water broken.
Although its light is wide and great
the moon is reflected even in a puddle an inch wide,
the moon and the entire sky
are reflected in one dew drop on the grass.
